The RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 is first one of the clamshell model from RIM. The BlackBerry Pearl Flip is very functional. It has many added features and a good choice when it comes to smart phone for an individual. However, it is not perfect for the power business users.
Build & Design
The RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 has a clamshell design model. However, it is not flashy in design. The measurement of the smart phone in closed state is 3.9″x1.9″x0.7″ and weighs 3.6 ounces. In the open state, Pearl Flip 8220 is quite tall. A very compact flip phone, it has a solid construction. It is available in two colors: black and red. The display is 1.6-inch diagonal with a 128×160 pixel resolution. MicroSD cards up to 16GB can be placed in the right spine of the Pearl flip.
Keypad
The RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 has a Sure Type keyboard and trackball navigator. Talk and End keys are placed below the display. The keyboard is modified with two letter aligned to one button. The buttons are spacious and large, which provides comfortable typing for the user. The images taken are on average with a 2-megapeixel camera.
Performance & Benchmarks
Overall performance of the RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 is quite good and has an excellent call quality. It is of clamshell design, so no more auto-on or auto-wake in the pocket. Again, it is not 3G enabled but can be easily connected to the Wi-Fi, which is meant for casual browsing. The Pearl Flip 8220 offers an outstanding e-mail option. T-Mobile’s MyFaves service is supported by the Pearl Flip 8220, which enables one to make unlimited call to five contacts. It is one of the most compact amongst the flip phones. The battery life is not that strong, so one should charge well before leaving home.
